The Paul Hunter Foundation Launchs in Lancashire
September 2008

North Lancs Training Group’s and World Snooker Coach, Chris Lovell, has been tasked to lead the Paul Hunter Foundation within Lancashire. Chris said, “I am thrilled and honoured to be asked to lead the Foundation within Lancashire. I was lucky enough to meet Paul on two occasions when he was guest professional at NLTG’s Charity Snooker exhibitions for young people. On both occasions he was quite ill, but was so professional it was breathtaking. He also produced some of the best snooker the competition has seen in its twelve years.
We will be delivering two types of snooker activities across Lancashire.
1. The Paul Hunter Foundation Roadshows
These will be nightly roadshows within snooker clubs aimed at getting kids off the streets. They will comprise of a new snooker concept called 15/15 snooker and also various snooker games, together with trick shot tuition supported by Snooker Coaching by World Snooker Coaches. Chris commented “Every time you turn on a TV or open a newspaper you read about horrific crimes involving young people, particularly at the moment with knife crime top of the agenda. Through the Foundation we can make a difference to some young people’s lives by offering free fun based snooker sessions.”
2. The Paul Hunter Foundation Snooker Academy
This is a mobile concept that will travel from club to club within Lancashire delivering coaching within 10 or 5 weekly block sessions. Sessions will be fun based with the onus being on coaching to develop technique to improve youngsters’ standard of play, which in turn increases the chances of them wanting to spend more time in the clubs playing the game. Youngsters will receive coaching from World Snooker coaches who will also be on hand to facilitate the official World Snooker Red to Black exam.
All coaches have undertaken a CRB check with World Snooker.
Partnership scheme
Clubs and partnerships have also been given the opportunity to joint the Paul Hunter Foundation Membership Scheme. These are venues or partnerships which are offering free snooker via the Foundation.
All are encouraged to fund raise for the Foundation in a ‘something for something’ approach.
There will be 4 levels of certificate/membership.
Participation – a Club/Partnership begins to participate or hold events for the Foundation and actively donate funds or fund raise for the Foundation.
Bronze – a Club/Partnership has raised £750 for the Foundation.
Silver – a Club/Partnership has raised £1500 for the Foundation.
MASTERS Gold Award – a Club/Partnership has raised £3000 for the Foundation. They will be entitled to receive a free exhibition from a top snooker player.

Chris is pictured recently at the Paul Hunter Classic which was held in Furth, Germany where he was presented with his Grade A Certificate by six times World Champion and supporter of the Foundation, Steve Davis.
