'OVERVIEW OF THE PAUL HUNTER FOUNDATION ACTIVITIES FROM JANUARY 2010 TO JULY 2010'

08/10
The Foundation has maintained its activities during the period January 2010 – July 2010 by engaging some 500 young people on a weekly basis.
Our current provision covers the following areas:

Accrington
Great Harwood
Blackpool
Padiham
Lancaster
Sheffield
Chorley
Oldham
West Midlands

Other short term 6 week programmes have been held with hard to help areas specifically targeted. The support, as usual, from Steve Davis and Shaun Murphy has been invaluable, both from an operational point of view and from a credibility point of view.

The YNOT snooker youth club has again been successful in getting to the finals of the Tilly Awards, which is a national award organised by the Home Office with regards to projects reducing crime. Out of the entries across the UK, the NLTG/YNOT snooker youth club is through to the finals, which will be held in London later this year.

We have raised £10,000 through donations in this period. Promotional events were held at Radio Lancashire where we were joined by Lynsey Hunter and Radio Lancashire gave the Foundation unprecedented coverage through the day on each radio show, with 4 snooker tables being fitted within the studio and various presenters joining Lynsey, NLTG’s Jim Harkness, Accrington Academy’s Andrew Bateman and 20 young people in snooker games, together with the Foundation’s very own Lewis Ullah.

The Paul Hunter Foundation roadshow took to the stage in the Winter Gardens, Sheffield during the middle weekend of the World Championships where we were joined by Alan Hunter and Steve Davis. This was the opening event in World Snooker’s support of the Foundation for the 2010/11 snooker season.

World Snooker will support the Paul Hunter Foundation roadshow with each pre tournament event at the World Open, UK Championships, Masters, Welsh Open and World Championships being a springboard for the Foundation to develop in that area offering its 10 week development programme to a club or facility in each particular area.

Our goal for the next twelve months is to consolidate and self fund our current delivery and extend our UK delivery to each of the following areas:

Cumbria
Scotland
Midlands
London
Liverpool
Wales
Yorkshire

Many thanks to the trustees and to all our supporting organisations, in particular North Lancs Training Group, Young Peoples Service, Harvest Housing, Lancashire Constabulary, Lancashire Youth Offending team and YNOT, together with Alan Hunter, Steve Davis and Shaun Murphy.
