  • Hunter Snooker Initiative Breaks-Off - April 2008

The Kids Into Snooker (KIS) programme funded and supported by the Paul Hunter Foundation will 'break-off' in April 2008.Kids in Snooker

As the World Snooker Championships at The Crucible approaches, kids across the UK will be chalking their cues, some for the very first time, thanks to the Paul Hunter Foundation and Cuefactor.com.
The death of Paul Hunter at the age of 27, robbed the snooker world of a potential world champion and more importantly a sportsman unanimously popular with his peers and the public.

Once described as “the Beckham of the Baize”, Hunter did what the former England captain has done for football; he opened snooker to a whole new audience.

The KIS programme will be staged initially as a six-week 'pilot' scheme in Yorkshire (Paul's home county) and South Wales (the scene of his first major tournament win).
The objective of KIS is to provide a safe, fun and educational environment in which the future snookering population can receive professional coaching and get involved in the game of snooker.

Top coaches and former professionals will be on hand to pass on their expertise through a series of fun-based activities, including Steve Prest, the man who coached Shaun Murphy to his world title in 2005,
The provisional No1 Murphy is backing the idea and said, "The Paul Hunter Foundation was set up with the specific aim of giving young people the opportunity to get involved with the sport that brought Paul so much enjoyment. It is an honour to be working on something so worth while. I know Paul would have been so proud."
The KIS programme will include coaching, competitions, games and quizzes. Throughout the six-week course, there will be an emphasis on FUN, with prizes and rewards to encourage participation and performance.

The KIS programme will ‘break-off’ in Yorkshire and Wales in April 2008.
